Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
